雲林縣榮民服務處表示，把藝術人文導入農業、將生態農業引進社區、一手催生興安生態部落農場創辦人—榮民弟兄吳長興，憲兵部隊退伍後，原僅有高職學歷的他，運用退輔會的就學補助，一路念到目前的國立雲林科技大學博士班。
興安生態部落農場位於虎尾興中里，農場就是大型生態實驗室，原本是一塊充滿建築廢棄物的荒地，吳長興將廢棄物移走後，用了二十六台車重新填入新土，導入農村藝術規劃，開闢了一個以生態、人文為主，有機農耕生產為輔的社區型農場。
農場裡，最先吸引人們眼球的，是各式貨櫃小屋和兩個大大的蓄水池，這些看似平凡的物件卻是他研究的一部份。蓄水池前，吳長興介紹指出，紅色桶是「炭水」，是噴灑土壤和作物用的；另外也有製做「稻燻水」，這些含有炭味的水對於驅蟲、滅菌效果非常好，他並且指著兩大池水表示是他的實驗之一，經過他的觀察測試後發現，水要經過四光五波，要經陽光照射才會有能量，這也是農場裡現今在使用的水。
真柏樹園區裡的貨櫃屋，也是吳長興的實驗對象之一，他說，所規劃的是將貨櫃屋改造成小時候常見的土角厝，真柏區有藝術家進駐進行雕刻，有請藝術家幫忙設計色彩的分佈，然後把水耕作物、氣耕作物、土耕作物都種上，等土角厝的泥土模組一好，貨櫃屋就可遷移，屋子的下面還會養雞，形成一個自然生態循環區域。
吳長興強調，「原生」就是全部回歸自然──將生態農業導入社區，最終目的還是希望將自然生態的價值讓更多人認同並投入，除了未來朝自然生態觀光發展外，結合當地資源，傳播自然生態價值，讓更多人認同投入環境生態保護的行列是最終目標。
吳長興指出，他想讓更多農民不要再噴農藥，想讓農民願意投入友善或有機種植，所以部落農場除了投入有機農作實驗外，更和在地的德興宮、清雲宮合作，投入農夫市集的催生，因德興宮緊鄰虎尾市場，是每天約有一萬人次的市集，推動農夫市集可以讓有機農產多一個地點銷售，提高農民投入的意願。
將生態農業導入社區是一項推動困難的工作，部落農場理念發起人之一的莊貴枝教授曾說，將生態農業導入社區，以部落為單位，先和村、里結合，慢慢拓展成觀光農業，漸漸地再拓展到全雲林。部落農場若真能拓展開來，對社區、對整個雲林、整個台灣社會都是有幫助的，只是萬事起頭難，大家要一起努力。
